Arcachon in the South West of France, main town of the Bassin d’Arcachon, is considered one of the largest seaside resorts on the Atlantic coast and has become the preferred destination for French people for their summer holidays (OBS 25 May 2016 ).
Its beauty is the main attraction and the microclimate makes it possible to avoid any scorching heat, with mild and pleasant temperatures.
It was created in 1857 by separating the town La Teste de Buch and took advantage of the great development of sea baths in vogue at that time.
From 1862 to 1865 the Ville d’Hiver (winter town) was built under the impulse of the Pereire brothers, attracting a wealthy European clientele who came to protect themselves from the rigors of winter.
To receive this bourgeois clientele, numerous monuments were built, such as the Casino Mauresque but also opulent buildings and villas with a wide range of architectural styles.
Then Arcachon becomes "the city of the four seasons" to which is added the Ville de Printemps (spring town), Ville d’Eté (summer town) and Ville d’Automne (autumn town).
Downtown Arcachon has recently undergone a rehabilitation with the creation of a new square called Place des Marquises inaugurated on March 25, 2012. This new space, located between the town hall and the boulevard de la Plage, is a summary of the most remarkable architectural styles of the town of Arcachon.
Three other important districts are: Aiguillon, the Abatilles and the Moulleau
Certain monuments make the charm and the beauty of this seaside town as the Tesera villa, the Notre Dame Basilica, the Chapel of the Sailors…
But also natural monuments like the Dune de Pilat, the Ile aux Oiseaux and many more.
Arcachon is a popular fishing and sailing destination, the city is visited each summer by nearly 90,000 summer visitors, and, in the off-season on certain weekends, by nearly 15,000 people.
